1. INTERVIEW WITH VISUAL ARTIST ELIZABETH DELFS

Elizabeth Delfs is a visual artist originally from Fremantle, Western Australia, now living in Berlin.  In June, Delfs will host an Open Studio for the “Satellite Program” in the annual DMY Berlin International Design Festival.

Why did you choose Berlin? Were there other cities that you considered?                 I wanted to base myself in a vibrant international art community which was affordable and made travel throughout the  Europe accessible. I really love New York and might consider going there sometime in the future. But I like Berlin - socially it’s easy to meet so many interesting people, and professionally the industry is approachable as an emerging artist, and the city is rich in history, culture and nature.

What medium did you start out working with?
Well I studied in fashion and textile design so that’s where I have come from - textiles and garment construction.

What was the spark or moment that inspired you to create these works?
It’s hard to say….. it’s more like an idea sitting in your head which takes time to evolve and grow. It’s more of a slow burn than a spark for me.

If you had all the resources, what would you create?
Hmmm something big. I don’t know! So many things!

With whom would be your dream collaboration?
    Olafur Eliasson or Bjork.

    Thank you Elizabeth!
